Eating disorders in 11–17 year old schoolgirls: Prevalence, features of clinical manifestations, psychosomatic comorbidity

Background . Eating disorders are an urgent public health problem due to their high prevalence and mortality. The disease prognosis depends on timely diagnosis; however, these conditions sure be underestimated. aim To study the prevalence, features of clinical manifestations psychosomatic comorbidity eating disorder (ED) subthreshold (SED) in schoolgirls aged 11–17 years. Materials methods We examined 917 screening questionnaire including 11questions combined into three pools named “Thoughts about one’s own body” was used. first pool (A) – assessed body dissatisfaction, second one (B) disorders, third (C) food intake disorders. answers were encoded as “1”, “2”, “3” (“false”, “rather true”, “true”). Schoolgirls who scored maximum number points (12) A regarded dissatisfied with further divided two groups: group included girls more than 10 B; less (SED), respectively. Body mass index (BMI) determined by weight-height coefficient correlated centile tables. Psychosomatic presence recurrent headache abdominal pain last six months. Results overall 11.7 %, where ED made 2.1 SED 9.6 %. All had abnormal behavior; those used aggressive weight-loss methods. BMI ˂ 5th percentile observed % 4.5 SED. 60 40.9 complained frequent headaches; 30 20.4 suffering from pain. Conclusion In schoolgirls, is 4.6 times common threshold disorder. Characteristics absence underweight for most syndrome.
